2009 Global Moot Corp Competition
Crowned the "Super Bowl of world business plan competition," the
2009 Global Moot Corp Competition will be held on May
6 - 9, 2009 on The University of
Texas at Austin campus. Participation is through invitation or by winning
other competitions. This year, 22 teams will qualify for the Global Moot Corp
Competition by winning regional competitions. See
Participating Competitions.
Now in its 26th year, the Moot Corp Competition was the first business
plan competition when it began in 1984. Today, it is one of the largest new
venture competitions with 40 teams participating. Participation in the Moot Corp
Competition offers MBAs the following opportunities:
- To network with fellow MBAs from the best business schools in the world,
- To improve their business plans both from the preparation involved and from investors' suggestions,
- To make contact with venture capitalists and other investors, and
- To enjoy Austin during our finest season.
On Thursday, all teams will have 15 minutes to present their plans to teams of consultants from the Austin Technology Council, Austin Technology Incubator, IC2 Institute, International Bank of Commerce, Kelleher Center, Prime Investments, TyRex Group and Texchange. Each team will then receive 15 minutes of frank feedback and suggestions for improvement.
On Friday morning, the MBAs will compete in eight divisions of five teams each. The judges in each division will select a semifinalist, a first runner-up, an outstanding written plan, and an outstanding presentation. Friday afternoon, the eight first runner-ups will compete in two Thompson & Knight Challenges. The first runner-ups will each have 30 minutes to interact with Murphree Partners to convince them whose venture offers the greatest opportunity. The two winners will move into the Semifinal Round Saturday morning. The second place finishers will receive $1,000.
On Saturday, all teams will compete for monetary awards.
