Teams

Crowned the "Super Bowl of world business plan competition," the Moot Corp 2006 Competition will be held on May 3-6, 2006 on The University of Texas at Austin campus. Participation is through invitation or by winning other competitions. This year, 17 teams will qualify for the Global Moot Corp Competition by winning other competitions. See Participating Competitions.

Now in its 23rd year, the Moot Corp Competition was the first business plan competition when it began in 1984. Today, it is the largest new venture competition with 35 teams participating. Participation in the Moot Corp Competition offers MBAs the following opportunities:

  • To network with fellow MBAs from the best business schools in the world,
  • To improve their business plans both from the preparation involved and from investors' suggestions,
  • To make contact with venture capitalists and other investors, and
  • To enjoy Austin during our finest season.
Welcome to Moot Corp 2006, the 23rd Moot Corp Competition. In 1983 two Texas MBAs conceived the idea for a business plan competition. They named it the Moot Corp Competition, and the first Competition was held in 1984. In these past 23 years, our Competition has grown from an intellectual exercise for Texas MBAs to a launch pad for MBA ventures from around the globe. Moot Corp 2006 offers  greater opportunities to develop skills in soliciting funds and more exposure to potential investors than ever before.

Three Presentations

On Thursday, all teams will have 15 minutes to present their plans to teams of consultants from the Austin Technology Incubator, Austin Technology Council, Luna Piena, NASDAQ Stock Market, Texchange and McCombs. Each team will then receive 15 minutes of frank feedback and suggestions for improvement.

On Friday morning, the MBAs will compete in eight divisions of five teams each. The judges in each division will select a semifinalist, a first runner-up, an outstanding written plan, and an outstanding presentation. Friday afternoon, the eight first runner-ups will compete in two Murphree Challenges. The first runner-ups will each have 30 minutes to interact with Murphree Partners to convince them whose venture offers the greatest opportunity. The two winners will move into the Semifinal Round Saturday morning. The second place finishers will each receive $1,000.

On Saturday, all teams will compete for monetary awards.

  • Twenty-four teams will compete in five Challenges, each hosted by a different firm:  Access Venture Partners, NASDAQ Stock Market, Ropes & Gray, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Thompson & Knight. In the Challenges, each team will have 30 minutes to provide an overview of its venture and interact with the investors. The winners will each receive $1,000.
  • The ten semifinalists will compete Saturday morning in two divisions. The judges in each division will select a finalist. The non-finalists will each receive $2,000.
  • The four finalists will compete in the late afternoon for the title of Global Champion.
