Texas Moot Corp Competition Finals and Texas Winners Panel -  Feb. 17

On February 3, 13 teams from the University of Texas at Austin competed in the annual Texas Moot Corp® Competition Semifinals. The Competition has become an annual launch for aspiring entrepreneurs who are graduate students at UT Austin.


The top five teams now move on to the Finals on Feb. 17. The winning team wins a free year in the Austin Technology Incubator, a spot in the prestigious Global Moot Corp Competition plus a wealth of industry and venture capital contacts.

 

Reunion of Texas Winners
Before the competition on Feb. 17, a panel of past Texas Moot Corp competitors made up of the founders of nine companies will share their stories and insights into the start-up process. The panel discussion, followed by a question and answer session, will cover topics such as raising venture capital and surviving in today’s economy.


The panel will be sharing tales of entrepreneurial intrigue—the highs and lows and everything in between such as raising venture capital, bringing the MBA curriculum to the startup process and preparing for the Moot Corp Competition. The panel discussion will be followed by a question and answer session hosted by Rob Adams, director of the Moot Corp Competition. The firms presenting will be Bigfoot Networks, Chipotle Business Group, eVapt, FocalPop, Halsa Pharmaceuticals, MacuCLEAR, Phurnace Software, Qcue and uShip.


Public is invited
The panel will run from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM in the Legacy Events Room CBA 3.202 in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. The Texas Moot Corp Competition Finals will run from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM in the same room followed by a reception to announce the winner. The public is invited to attend.

Start-Up Advice from Moot Corp Alumni

Recently, a panel of former Texas Moot Corp participants and entrepreneurs gathered to share insights on topics such as raising venture capital, hiring the right team and how to learn from mistakes along the way. Novophage Therapeutics Wins 2009 Global Moot Corp Competition

A company hoping to significantly slow the onset of antibiotic resistance claimed the grand prize at the 26th annual Global Moot Corp Competition held at the University of Texas at Austin on Saturday, May 9. Novophage Therapeutics from Boston University and MIT beat out 39 teams from top MBA programs around the world to claim the Global Champion prize.

Novophage Therapeutics will introduce a new biological therapy that slows the onset of antibiotic resistance and increases the efficacy of current antibiotics. The company plans to offer efficacious treatments for highly antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, allowing infectious disease doctors to better manage the fight against multidrug-resistant strains through co-administration of engineered bacteriophages with current clinical standards of care. Team members include Timothy Lu, Tanguy Chau, Michael Koeris and Ann DeWitt.
