Guidelines
Criteria for Selecting World Champion
The
Moot Corp® Competition simulates the process of entrepreneurs
soliciting start-up funds from investors. The judges function as an investment group
seeking to reach consensus on the business venture they would most likely
fund—that is, where they would put their money. The quality of the idea, the
strength of the management team, and the clarity and persuasiveness of the
written plan and oral presentation all influence the judges’ decision.
Ultimately, however, their votes follow their money, and the winner is the
team, which convinces them to invest.
The four-page Moot Corp® Judge’s Evaluation
Forms are completed by all judges before their collective discussion. The forms
produce numerical scores intended to enhance rather than determine their final
selection. Opinions and rankings change based on the discussions, just as they
do in real investment committee meetings. The goal is to reach consensus on the
company that represents the best investment opportunity.
