Moot Corp Alumni Association
The first ever Texas Moot Corp Alumni Reunion was held on Feb. 11, 2005 It was a
time to renew old friendships, rekindle the entrepreneurial spirit
and get alumni involved with the Moot Corp Program of today. Moot Corp
Founder Barbara
Oppenheimer Cohn and Alumni Jeff Hoogendam talked about "then and now".
Jeff Hoogendam is organizing an Alumni Association to
assist in the continuing growth of the Moot Corp Program and is asking for
assistance in several areas:- Ideas for the teams’ ventures;
- Mentors for the UT teams;
- Identifying Sponsors;
- Hosts for the Global Competition teams; and
- Serving on the Steering Committee.
Ideas for the Teams’ Ventures
Each semester, students come into the New Venture Creation
class looking for an idea or technology to be the basis for their business plans
and ventures. Mike Hanratty has agreed to serve on this Committee. Mike now
works for The University’s Office of Technology Commercialization; many teams
now consider UT technologies as the basis for their ventures. They also continue
to get ideas from a myriad of sources. We are looking for volunteers to serve on
this Committee who have ideas for new ventures and would be willing to share
them with the students.
Mentors for the UT Teams
This Committee will provide each UT team with a mentor,
preferably one with some domain knowledge and expertise. We are looking for a
Chair for this Committee that will be in charge of recruiting and assigning
mentors. We anticipate that mentors will commit to spending about 10 hours per
semester with their teams. Committee members may also be mentors.
Identifying Sponsors
Gary raises $200,000 each year to fund the Moot Corp
Program. Partners and Sponsors provide $25,000 and $5,000 respectively each
year. Many of these corporate donors have a Moot Corp champion who is
responsible for getting the support of his/her corporation. We need a Chair for
this Committee. The role of this Committee is to recruit champions. Committee
members will not be asked to donate their own money!
Hosts for the Global Competition Teams
We would like to have alumni hosts for each of the
approximately 30 teams that come to Austin each May. These hosts would get to
know the teams and answer any questions they may have about enjoying Austin;
nearly half of them come from outside the USA. We need a Chair for this
Committee that will be in charge of recruiting and assigning hosts.
Steering Committee
Jeff is looking for three or four alumni to join him on the
Steering Committee that he will Chair. They will provide overall guidance to the
Moot Corp Director.
Being involved in the above activities is a way that you
can all rekindle your entrepreneurial spirit and give back to the Moot Corp
Program. Please consider joining a committee. Email your interest to Jeff
Hoogendam at
